Apple Books Update

Popping in today with an important update for Apple Books users. If you don’t use Apple Books, this won’t affect you. But, if you do, please read on.

Apple Books is making some changes, specifically for their stores in the European Union, to comply with new legal requirements. These changes mean that my personal information (including my home address! šŸ˜±) would be published online.

This does not make me feel safe. AT ALL.

While these changes would not have taken effect right away, with the upcoming holiday season and my continued health challenges, I felt the best thing to do would be to take care of this now, while it would be technically easier to do so.

So I had to make the tough decision to remove my books from Apple. I did not want to do this, but felt it was the best way to keep myself safe.

BUT there is a way for Apple Books users to read my books!Ā Please read on – I’ve addressed several questions below. If you still have other questions, please hit reply and let me know.

I preordered Crowned on Apple – what can I do?

If you preorderedĀ Crowned, the preorder SHOULD be cancelled. But double check (and cancel it if needed) by usingĀ these instructions.

Once you cancel (if it isn’t cancelled already), you canĀ pre-order it again from my storeĀ (there’s even a discount already applied – just add to cart and check out)!

Will books I’ve already purchased disappear?

Not at all! Any books you’ve purchased should still be in your library. The only exception isĀ Crowned, which hasn’t released yet, and whose preorder should now be cancelled (see instructions above).

How can I read your books on Apple?

Moving forward, you can buy your books direct from me and my store. There is an easy way to add books purchased through my store to ALL the major ereaders and ereading apps (including Apple Books, Kindle, Kobo, Nook, Google, and more). You’ll receive instructions to add it via a service I use called Bookfunnel after you purchase.

If this only affects EU stores, why remove your books from all countries?

This is a good question! Unfortunately, I’ve run into issues with Apple before, where my personal information ended up being visible even in the U.S. store by accident. That’s why I can’t assume that something similar won’t happen again (on a much more global scale).

What about audiobooks?

I don’t distribute my audiobooks direct from Apple. They are sent to Apple via a 3rd party site. Right now, audiobooks should not be affected but, if that changes, I will certainly let you know.

Will you ever publish directly on Apple again?

Things change a lot in the publishing industry, so you never know! If I do start publishing directly on Apple again, I will be sure to let you know.

ā€‹

I understand this decision might frustrate you, but it was not one I made lightly. Thank you for understanding that my safety must come first, and know that there is still a way to read my current books (and future books!) on your Apple device. If you have any questions, please comment below and let me know.

xoxo marianne
